History Video #7: Yoga


During today's class, we talked about the Hindu ideas of samsara and karma. Thank you to Carter V., Grant, Whitley and Mac for being such good sports during my demonstration of karma.

In addition, Cameron asked a superb question about reincarnation: Do Hindus believe that new souls can be created? Wouldn't there need to be new souls, in order for the human population to increase through history?

Ellie provided an intriguing possible answer: perhaps some Hindus believe that when a person dies, his or her "original" soul is reborn, plus a "new" (second) soul is reborn that was generated during that particular life.

For today's Musical Monday selection, I shared the Bollywood song Mitwa (the video is here). Many of you said that you enjoyed the Bollywood musical style, so I wanted to share an additional example.

The song below is called Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, and the video provides some excellent images of a Hindu wedding.
